Let’s jump-start our way to better health!

Two thirds of Aussies are overweight, we barely exercise, we watch screens for too long, and eat too much junk food. But we can turn it around, if kids and adults make some healthy changes.

Kids News has created a special Health of the Nation Education Kit to help students understand the state of Australia’s health and learn the fundamentals of looking after their own.

The digital kit is designed for students from Year 3 onwards and includes a section for secondary students only. The kit comes with an interactive workbook of 24 activities, created by a teacher and aligned to the National Curriculum.

The kit content covers:

Part 1: The health of the nation

Part 2: How much kids should eat

Part 3: Exercise

Part 4: Sleep

Part 5: Technology and health

Part 6: Phones and mental health

Part 7: Dental health

Part 8: How to host a school walkathon

A special RED LEVEL section for secondary students also covers:

Part 9: Drugs and alcohol

Part 10: Vaping and smoking

Part 11: Social health

Part 12: Disordered eating

The workbook is supported by 12 feature stories on health under our Education Kits topic page at kidsnews.com.au/education-kits

These stories will assist students to answer the questions in the workbook.

The Health of the Nation Education Kit is FREE to teachers and parents who sign up to the weekly Kids News newsletter.

A link and a special access code will be sent to subscribers in forthcoming newsletters. Not a subscriber? Sign up free HERE.

If your school decides to host a walkathon, we’d love to hear all about it – share your school walkathon highlights on the Kids News Schoolyard Shoutout page – click HERE for submission guidelines.
