A Sydney family has returned home to an unexpected and puzzling scene: their driveway was piled high with hundreds of used tyres.

Harjeet Singh Rai and his wife, who live in Blacktown in the city’s west, discovered the unusual delivery after two workers dropped off the tyres this week while they were at work.

The sight left neighbours in disbelief* as they watched the workers unload approximately 500 tyres over four hours.

Mr Rai was confused at first when he arrived home, momentarily thinking he had come to the wrong address.

“I was shocked,” he told 9News Sydney.

“No one believes me that 400-500 tyres arrived. It’s a very different place — I ended up in a tyre yard.”

A friend who witnessed the tyre pile said: “At first, I laughed, but then it became serious. When you see the quantity, it’s crazy.”

Despite attempts to solve the mystery, Mr Rai has been unable to identify the owner of the tyres more than two days later.

Frustrated, he expressed a desire to reclaim* his driveway.

“Come, take this back; we’re not going to say anything to you guys because you stack (them) up nicely, so take it nicely,” he said.

The bizarre* incident has left the family and their neighbours scratching their heads, wondering how such a mix-up could occur.
