Saint Monica’s Primary School community in Kangaroo Flat, Victoria, is enjoying a long-term win with a weekly activity that keeps growing in popularity. The school’s free and fast health initiative has had “undeniable positive impact on all involved”, according to sports coordinator Jarrod Epps.
“The Saint Monica’s Run Club is a weekly before-school club that has been drawing impressive numbers, with 30 to 45 enthusiastic young participants gathering every Friday morning,” Mr Epps said.
The club started in November 2022 and aims to instil a love for running and physical activity, giving students a fun and supportive environment to engage in exercise before their busy school day begins.
“Runners of all abilities are welcomed, fostering inclusivity and a sense of community among participants,” Mr Epps said.
“The goal is to not only encourage physical activity but also to instil a sense of enjoyment and camaraderie among the children.”
According to Mr Epps, the runners strive to achieve a personal best each week, with students covering distances from 1km up to 3.5km.
“We believe the club’s success story is worth sharing, and we would love Kids News to do a Schoolyard Shoutout, acknowledging the joy and excitement that this initiative brings to the young runners of St. Monica’s,” he said.
The Kids News team sends a very warm and hearty hooray to all the young runners in the St Monica’s Running Club – we can’t think of a better start to the school day!
